There are several reasons your NXT could be deviating from its course, such as, uneven center of gravity, dragging parts, uneven motors, etc. Here we will be addressing the most common and destructive case. Why destructive? Well, last year because of it we ripped up a Food Factor mat at competition...
How to stop your NXT from curving!
Follow the steps below:
(Step 1) Create the model shown in the pictures below. (The axle length should be 12m or longer)
(Step 2) Attach tires to the rims.
(Step 3) Make sure tires are evenly set in the grooves.
(Step 4) Roll the model forward on a long, flat and even surface then pay close attention to any deviation or curve when it is freely rolling.
(Step 5) If you encounter no deviation, then these are the pair of wheels you require! Place them on your robot in the same order. (Left or right). If this were your original combo, it may have been the tires which were uneven; if not, continue on and try different combinations.
(Step 6) If you do encounter deviation, mix and match different wheel combinations until you find a pair with minimal or no deviation!
(Step 7) If you encounter problems please contact us!
